Akshay Gogari and Anand Ganoo played a stellar role in Premjis 4-2 win over DS Warriors in the final of the 5-team MCF Premier Table Tennis League, held at Mandpeshwar Civlc Federation’s sports complex at Borivali here yesterday. Both won their respective singles., Akshay downed mercurial Mumbai District’s Swayam Ibrahampurkar in straight games, while Anand’s surprise 11-6, 11-8 win over Ojas Moorey put them in driver’s seat.
And their junior Jayom Shingte gave a good account of himself, while outplaying Aarya Panchal in straight games. Their conclusive win then came in the doubles, in which the pair of Arun Verma and Aryaman Patel thrashed Kunal Shah and Nilesh Prabhu with ease. For the Warriors, their consolation wins came through their veteran Raju Rajpal, who beat his counterpart Kaushik Unadkat and the first doubles pair of Omkar Makena and junior Vishesh Sarda, who proved too good for Dilip Kanabar and Saif Kazi.
Earlier , in the semifinals, Premjis beat Omtex 4-2 and Warriors triumphed over last year’s champions Roaring Panthers 4-3. Junior Vishesh Sarda was awarded the best emerging player of the league.
