Air India Colony Boys clinched the top honours in the inaugural edition of the Kalina Open football tournament, organized by the Kaka Baptista Sports Foundation and played at the Joseph (Kaka) Baptista Ground, Kalina. The tournament was conceptualized and supported by local corporator Brian Miranda.
In a well-contested final, the Air India Colony side struck once in each half to stave off a strong challenge from Indian Airlines Colony Boys to script a deserving 2-0 victory.
Air India showed good understanding and better coordination and took the lead through Vinod Pandey’s first half strike and went into the break with a slender 1-0 advantage.
After switching ends, Air India doubled the lead when Akshay Pashilkar hit the target midway through the second session. Thereafter, Air India defended well and did not allow their rivals to find the net and to get back into the game.
