Vedant, Kareena emerge best U-17 swimmers


 

Vedant Bapna, of Glenmark Aquatic Foundation and Kareena Shankta from Forest Club  emerged best under-17 swimmers in the GAF-GMAAA Junior and Sub-junior Aquatic meet cum selection meet, sponsored by Glenmark Aquatic Foundation at Tata Swimming Pool, Chembur, here today. Vedant,who garnered 29 points bagged three golds, one silver and one bronze , while Kareena ended with 33 points had  four golds a silver.  And her gold haul included two new meet records too. In fact, she pipped Khar Gymkhana’s Seeya Bijlani, who too logged 33 points but with just one new record.

The best and the second best boys and girls in various age groups pose with GMAAA President Mr Zarir Baliwala (Ext.R)) and GMAAA Hon. Secretary Pradeep Divgikar and official Vinay Bhayani at the end of GAF-GMAAA Junior and Sub-junior Aquatic meet cum selection meet.

Apeksha Fernandes from IIT, Bombay , with five golds (35 points) , including two record-breaking golds,was the highest overall in point standing with 35 points. Other to figure among toppers were Tannishtha Nair (GAF) in group III  with 28 points And Anannya nNayak (Ozone), had 27 points to her credit in group IV category..

 

Among boys, Adita Shah (Forest Club) and ManavGupta (Otters) shared the top honours in group II. Both aggregated identical 29 points with  three golds, one silver and one bronze medals.

 

Individual champions in various age groups:

 

BOYS: Group I (15-17 yrs):  Vedant Bapna (GAF)- 29 pts – 3G+1S+1B.  Group II (12-14 yrs): Aditya Shah (Forest Club) & Manav Gupta (Otters Club) –  29 pts – 3G+1S+1B. Group III (11 yrs): Parth Jain (GAF) –  28 pts –  4G.  Group IV (9-10 yrs):  Archit Morvekar (MLWB) –  28 pts –  4G+2S.

 

GIRLS: Group I (15-17 yrs):  : Kareena Shankta (Forest Cclub) – 33 pts – 4G+1S (with 2NMRs). Group II (12-14 yrs): Apeksha Fernandes (IIT, Bombay) – 35 pts – 5G with 2NMRs). Group III (11 yrs):Tannishtha Nair (GAF) – 28 pts – 4G. Group IV (9-10 yrs):  Anannya Nayak (Ozone – 27 pts – – 2G+2S+1B.

GIRLS (Gr I): 50m Breast Stroke: Kareena Shanka (Forest Club ) – 00:36.40 secs. (Old record – 00:37.85 secs.). 200m Individual medley: Seeya Bijlani  (Khar Gym)- 02:34.39 secs. (Old record – 02:38.94  secs).

 

GIRLS (Gr II): 100m Back Stroke: Palak Dhami (GAF) – 01:10.74 secs. (Old record – 01:11.23 secs.). 50m Back Stroke: Palak Dhami (GAF) – 00:32.45 secs. (Old record – 00:37.17 secs.).

 

200m Butterfly Stroke: Apeksha Fernandes (IIT, Bombay) – 02:29.61 secs. (Old record – 02:32.60 secs).  200m Individual medley: Apeksha Fernandes (IIT, Bombay) – 02:32.53 secs. (Old record – 02:33.67 secs).
