Palak sets another new mark; Apeksha ends with five golds


Palak Dhami was the sole record-breaker today as she bagged gold in the 50m backstroke  in 00:32.45 secs, eclipsing 2015 Tejaswita Bhardwaj’s timing of 00:37.17 secs.  in the GAF-GMAAA Junior and Sub-junior Aquatic meet cum selection meet, sponsored by Glenmark Aquatic Foundation at Tata Swimming Pool, Chembur, here today.

Palak ended with overall .four golds and a silver medals. Earlier the girl from Glenmark Aquatic Foundation had clinched 100m backstroke gold with a new timing of 01:10.74 secs. while improving  upon 2015 Tejaswita Bhardwaj’s timing of 01:11.23 secs.

 

Apeksha Fernandes, the 13-year-old girl from IIT Bombay, who  won three golds – two of them being record-breaking efforts – on the second day, could add another gold, -albeit without record – in the 400m Individual medley event.

In group I,   Kareena Shankta (Forest Club) added golds in the 200m  and 50m breast stroke and 200m individual medley events to end with four golds and a silver, while for Seeya Bijlani, she triumphed in the 100m free style and 400m individual medley (Grou0p I) eventws.

 

Among boys, Rudransh Mishra, of Maharashtra Labour Welfare Board,  excelled, by winning the 50m freestyle (00:25.48 secs)  and 50m Breast stroke (00:32.48 secs.) in group I.  But his efforts were far from the existing marks in both the events.

 

 The overall record breakers were:

 

GIRLS (Gr I): 50m Breast Stroke: Kareena Shanka (Forest Club ) – 00:36.40 secs. (Old record – 00:37.85 secs.). 200m Individual medley: Seeya Bijlani  (Khar Gym)- 02:34.39 secs. (Old record – 02:38.94  secs).

 

GIRLS (Gr II): 100m Back Stroke: Palak Dhami (GAF) – 01:10.74 secs. (Old record – 01:11.23 secs.). 50m Back Stroke: Palak Dhami (GAF) – 00:32.45 secs. (Old record – 00:37.17 secs.).

 

200m Butterfly Stroke: Apeksha Fernandes (IIT, Bombay) – 02:29.61 secs. (Old record – 02:32.60 secs).  200m Individual medley: Apeksha Fernandes (IIT, Bombay) – 02:32.53 secs. (Old record – 02:33.67 secs).
