Mumbai lad Hriday Sheth gave a commendable performance and clinched a Bronze medal in Under-13 Open category of the AICF 8th National School Open Chess Championship 2019, orgainised by the Raipur District Chess Association at Agrasen Dham, Raipur, Chhattisgarh and which concluded recently.

Mumbai youngster Hriday Sheth clinched a Bronze medal in Under-13 Open category of the AICF 8th National School Open Chess Championship 2019.
Hriday, a seventh standard student of DY Patil International School, Worli beagn his campaign with a FIDE Rating of 1594, and did exceptionally well to finish with a tally of seven points out of a possible nine games. He played some great games, including a drawn encounter with the eventual silver medallist, Garv Gour of Haryana. Garv with a better progressive score forced Hriday to settle for the bronze medal. The gold medal was won by Aditya Dhingra from Haryana who scored eight points. This victory also catapults Hriday into 1600 ELO Fide rating zone and he would now represent Maharashtra in the Schools Chess Championship.
Hriday, had previously won a bronze medal at the World Schools Chess Championships at Lasi, Romania in 2017. The Maharashtra state champion, Hriday is a trainee at the South Mumbai Chess Academy (SMCA) and has been making rapid strides in establishing himself on the chess circuit.
Hriday’s chief coach FIDE Master Balaji Guttula was very satisfied with the youngsters’ performance and bronze-medal winning effort. “It is very rare to win a bronze medal at this competitive championship like the National Schools Chess Championship. At this age the children need to balance their academics very well along with pursuing their passion for chess,” opined Guttula.
“However, I have full faith and confidence in Hriday as he a very hardworking child and a versatile chess player. Undoubtedly he has a great future in chess,” Guttula further stated.
