Malkeet Singh of Railways seemed to be a man in a hurry as he brushed aside Surat’s Maaz Chakkiwala posting a quick win in three straight frames 3-0 in the best-of-5-frame third round match of the Rs 12.9 lakhs prize-money CCI All India Open Snooker Championship 2019 and played at the CCI’s Sir Wilson Jones Billiards Room, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Mumbai-based Central Railway player Malkeet potted steadily and hardly provided his opponent Chakkiwala much opportunities to settle down as he raced to a 76-17, 73-8 and 75-1 victory to confirm his slot in the round of 64.
Meanwhile, Gujarat cueist Rupesh Shah hit top form and constructed three substantial breaks en route to a convincing 3-0 win against Odisha’s Subrat Das in a second round match.
The ONGC player quickly settled down and with runs of 40 and 47 pocketed the first two frame before he uncorked a neat run of 83 in the third to complete a 50-14, 93-14 and 83-0 win and book a place in the third round.
In other third round matches, Mohd Hussain Khan also of Railways beat back the challenge from Mandeep Singh to register a 3-1 (12-76, 62-31, 82-37 and 42-20) win while Delhi’s Anuj Uppal maintained his fine run of form to stop seasoned cueist Shakeel Ahmed of Railways in his tracks as he charged to a facile3-0 (71-25, 58-52, 61-23) victory.
Earlier in a second round match, Malkeet got the better of Pratyush Somayajula of Mumbai 3-1 (64-23, 61-20, 41-75, 72-18).
