JMJ Sports Club complete hat-trick of title triumphs


JMJ Sports Club completed a hat-trick of title triumphs as for the third consecutive season they emerged champions. Having clinched the Third and Second Division crowns in the previous two seasons, JMJ Sports Club produced another sterling performance to outclass D.K. Pharma cruising to a convincing 4-1 margin in the final and to claim the First Division title final of the Rustomjee-MDFA League 2018-2019 and played at the Neville D’Souza ground, Bandra.

The JMJ outfit showed good coordination and understanding as they exhibited excellently teamwork to dismantle the D.K. Pharma defence and completely dominated the match. They asserted total control from the outset and smashed in  four goals to complete an emphatic win.

 

Young talented forward Reuben Fernandes opened the scoring in the 11th minute and later with a brilliant swerving effort netted the fourth goal in the 80th minute to round off the winning tally. In between those goals seasoned striker Tarique Ansari struck two goals in the 25th and 62nd minutes to put the issue beyond their rivals.  D.K. Pharma who tried hard to match their opponents scored a late consolation goal when Roshan More converted a penalty in additional period.

 

Earlier, Bombay YMCA clinched the third place prize after they got the better of Ratnam SC 6-5 via the penalty shootout tie-breaker after full time finished in a 2-2 draw.

 

Results – First Div (final): JMJ Sports Club 4 (Reuben Fernandes 2, Tarique Ansari 2) beat D.K. Pharma SC 1 (Roshan More).

 

Third place: Bombay YMCA 6 (Haseeb Ansari 2, Arshad Ansari, Rahil Ansari, Kazim Sayyed, Sajid Ansari) beat Ratnam FA  4 (Johnson Kevin 2, Cleanio Carvalho, Rahul Parshad) via the tie-breaker. Full-time: 2-2.
