WASIM JAFFER, a former India star opener and Mumbai’s pride not long ago, and now a pillar of Vidharba Ranji trophy cricket, added another chapter to his illustrious career as he inaugurated the COEC (Centre of Excellence For Cricket) at Thakur International School at Kandivali. Incidentally, the school has three synthetic pitches. They also have mini synthetic athletics track as well.
This will be the second centre run by Jwala Sports Foundation and Mumbai Cricket Club in addition to the one existing one at Santacruz’s Air India Sports Club ground. It’s interesting to note that India’s new sensations – opener Prithvi Shaw and India Under-19 stylish lefthander Yashasvi Jaiswal – are the products of their centre at Santacruz.
This Kandivali Centre, in association with Sportonix Academy, has taken off to coach players from the age groups of 1o, 12, 14 and 18. Wasim himself, along with Srilankan legendary fast bowler Chaminda Vaas and Director of coaching Jwala Singh assisted by half a dozen coaches will hold the coaching at this centre on regular basic. The coaching centre will function from Tuesday to Friday (4 p.m. to 8 p.m.) and on Saturday and Sunday (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.) About 20 boys in under-14 and under-18 have already been enlisted.
