KSA Veterans tournament
Fancied outfits, hosts Karnatak Sporting Association (KSA) and reigning champions Maharaja (Air India) suffered semi-final heartbreaks going down to Bandra Packers and Central Railway respectively in the 2nd Late Shri Vishwanath Anchan Memorial Veterans’ Football Tournament 2019, organized and hosted by the Karnatak Sporting Association at the Karnatak SA ground, Cross Maidan on Friday.
Debutants Bandra Packers did well to hold KSA to a goalless draw and they prevailed 5-4 in the tie-breaker to book their place in the Saturday’s final. Savio Rodrigues, Maxie D’Souza, Coswil Cardoz, Clarie Remedious and Robert Kunwel were bang on target for the Bandra side, while only Feroz Ali, Glen Moraes, Philip D’Souza and Ryan D’Souza managed to score for the home team.
Earlier, defending champions Maharaja (Air India) crashed out going down to Central Railway 4-6 via the tie-breaker. Central Railway who trailed 0-1 scored the equalizer through Kasif Jaml in the fifth minute of the second half after Maharaja had taken the lead through Yusuf Ansari’s strike in the 15th minute.
In the penalty shootout contest, Central all their five attempts through Kasif Jsmal, Douzy Godinho, Asif Jsmsl, Tabrez Sayyed, Arif Ansari, while Air India scored through Jacinto D’Silva, Santan D’Souza and Simon Pascal D’Souza.
Results – Semi-finals: Central Railway 6 (Kasif Jsmal 2, Douzy Godinho, Asif Jsmsl, Tabrez Sayyed, Arif Ansari) beat Air India 1 (Yusuf Ansari, Jacinto D’Silva, Santan D’Souza, Simon Pascal D’Souza) via the tie-breaker. Full time: 1-1.
Bandra Packers 5 (Savio Rodrigues, Maxie D’Souza, Coswil Cardoz, Clarie Remedious, Robert Kunwel) beat Karnatak Karnatak Sporting Association 4 (Feroz Ali, Glen Moraes, Philip D’Souza, Ryan D’Souza) via the tie-breaker. Full time: 0-0.
