Parsee Gym snatch 3-run win over MCA Colts to retain title

Parsee Gymkhana retained their title as they snatched a thrilling 3-run victory against MCA Colts in the final of the Nirlon Ltd. sponsored R.F.S. Talyarkhan Memorial Invitation Cricket Tournament 2018-2019, organized by Bombay Gymkhana, under the auspices of MCA and played at the Gymkhana’s ground on Sunday evening.

Electing to bat first Parsee Gymkhana bolstered by the solid batting performances from Mumbai Ranji Trophy cricketers and IPL stars Surya Kumar Yadav (59 runs), Aditya Tare (51 runs) and a late charge from Shubham Ranjane (34 runs) amassed a massive total of 179 for the loss of seven wickets from their quota of 20 overs.

 

Later, Parsee Gymkhana were disciplined with their bowling which was backed by some excellent fielding and they managed to restrict MCA Colts to 176 for seven wickets from their 20 overs. Middle order batsman Hardik Tamore made 50 runs from 33 balls and Chinmay Suttar made a good contribution of 34 runs from 22 balls to keep MCA Colts in the chase. The MCA youngsters required 22 runs from the final two overs, but both the well-set batsmen Hardik and Chinmay in an attempt to score quick runs virtually threw away their wickets as they were run out in quick succession and their innings fell short of the target.

 

Earlier, the Parsee Gymkhana innings got off to dismal start losing both the openers for just 14 runs in three overs. But, the seasoned batting duo of Surya Kumar and skipper Aditya rescued the innings by putting together a 111 runs partnership runs for the third wicket in 9.1 overs.

 

Surya Kumar batted solidly and his gutsy knock from 41 balls was studded with five boundaries and three huge sixes, in contrast Aditya played responsibly and struck nine hits to the fence during his 35 balls innings. Later, Shubham played a cameo innings and scored 22 runs from Aquib Qureshi’s fourth over and 19th over of the innings, to boost the total.  MCA Colts left arm medium pacer Royston Dias (4/24) and Krutik Hangawadi (3/24) shared the wickets.

 

The champions Parsee Gymkhana received the R.F.S. Talyarkhan Memorial Trophy and a cash prize of Rs 50,000, while MCA Colts were presented with the runners-up trophy and a cash award of Rs 25,000.

 

Surya Kumar Yadav and Balwinder Singh Sandhu, both of Parsee Gymkhana won the ‘Best’ batsman and bowler awards respectively and they received Rs 5,000 each, while Shubham Raanjane also of Parsee Gym bagged the ‘Man of the series’ award and a cash prize of Rs 15,000.
