Vijay shocks top seed Ranjit; Urwashi in final


Tamil Nadu’s Vijay Kumar thrashed favourite  Ranjit Singh in straight games (.11-4, 11-3, 11-3) to make the title round in the  7th JSW-All India  Sunil Verma Memorial Squash Championship held in the JSW Squash Academy, at Vasind (Thane)  today. It perhaps was most inglorious exit for the off-colour top seed, who just could not getting going. Vijay now faces second seeded  Jamal Sakib who outplayed Ashish Keskar in straight games.

 

However, for the hosts, it was quite a fruitful outings as five of their players make the title round. Urwashi Joshi, the women’s outplayed Aakaanksha Gupta 11-6, 11-3, 11-3, while Rahul Biatha, the boys under-19 top seed, had to battle hard before he overcame Delhi’s Tejas Chawla  5-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-7, 11-3. Andhe now will meet his academy-mate Suraj Chand for the title. Even in the boys under-17 and under-15 finals, they have Deepak Mandal and Om Semwal in the fray.

The, Delhi’s sisters, Amira Singh, the under 17 top seed, and her younger sister Anahat, the under-11 top seed, have inched closer to made their respective finals with consummate ease..
