Ritvik stuns 2nd seeded Bhavitvya; Jash scores impressive wins


Seventh seeded Ritvik Nagle stunned 2nd seeded Bhavitvya Shah 4-1 to enter the men’s singles semi final of  the Khar Gymkhana-5-Star Mumbai Suburban District table tennis championships, here today. After dropping the3 first game, Ritvik hitback strongly to take next four games to clinch the last four berth with a 8-11,11-7, 12-10,12-10, 11-4 win. Earlier, Ritvik had beaten Swayam Ibrampurkar  6-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-5, 11-8 for a place in the youth boys semi finals too.

Equally, impressive was junior Chinmaya Somaiya, who is top seeded in men’s as well as junior boys singles. Chinmaya thrashed eighth seeded seasoned Nishant Kulkarni, who is twice his age, in straight games (11-7,11-9,11-7, 11-9).However, earlier, he was made to fight hard by Aadil Anand before he  triumphed 11-9, 7-11, 11-4, 11-2,11-8 in the youth boys singles quarterfinals.

 

. Ravindra Kotian, the current men’s state champion, who is making a comeback after a long layoff, appeared a bit rusty but managed to get past Jignesh Rahatwal  9-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-8, 9-11,11-6 to make the men’s last four.

Sharing the day’s honours was Jash Modi, who is just out of cadet boys. He won both his sub-junior as well as junior boys singles with some terrific display of controlled aggression. The third seeded  Jash overpowered  Mainak Nistala  after trailing1-2 before he was through with a 9-11, 7-11, 11-8, 11-4, 15-13, 11-7 win in the junior boys singles. And in the sub-junior boys section, he got better of Kushal Patel 8-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-3.
