Sumit Ahuja (+40 handicap) of Ulhasnagar came up with a late charge and managed to overcome Ajay Makwana (+50) of Central Railway Mechanical Institute 3-2 (105-69, 93-111, 100-88, 72-112, 102-74) in an absorbing first round match of the Khar Gymkhana Open Handicap Snooker Tournament 2018, and played at the Khar Gymkhana Billiards Room.
Meanwhile, CCI’s women cueist Sangeeta Hemchand (+60) after getting off to a flying start by pocketing the first two frames to enjoy a 2-0 lead againt Chandrakant Dehrikar (+55) of Andheri Recreation Club. But, Hemchand was unable to carry on the good showing and lost the next three frames and the match by a 2-3 margin. Dehrikar recovered to clinch a win with the frame scores reading 87-128, 101-113, 107-87, 103-89 annd 144-99 in his favour.
Akshay Wadkar (+50) a marker with CCI pulled off a first round win against Harish Pahuja (+40) of Khar Gymkhana by a 3-2 (101-80, 58-102, 77-102, 107-86, 117-60) margin to advance to the second round.
Vishal Vaya (+20) of Club Aquaria fought back after dropping the first frame to sideline Prabdeep Singh (+40) of MIG by coasting to a 3-1 (68-78, 100-76, 99.-65, 101-80) victory in another first round encounter.
