Defending champions Goregaon Sports Club and the last year’s finalists Bombay Gymkhana scored contrasting wins over their respective rivals to storm into the final of the IndusInd Bank-Motiram Cup Inter-Club Badminton tournament, hosted by Bombay Gymkhana here.
Bombay Gymkhana’s doubles pair of Mangrish .Palekar and Sagar Chopda, all thrilled after they notched up crucial win to steer their side to title round of the Motiram Cup Inter-Club Badminton tourney.
Thanks to ex-state ranked players Sagar Chopda and Mangrish Palekar’s fine dislay, they triumphed over CCI ‘A’ 2-0 with their doubles pair of Mangrish-Sagar pair fought tooth and nail before they subdued Siddesh Aroskar and Deepak Jelley 21-19, 15-21, 21-12 to give them the lead. And little latter Sagar was back on court to beat Nigel D’Sa 21-19, 21-17 to clinch the tie.
However, the holders Goregaon Sports Club were stretched by Chembur Gymkhana in the other semifinals. After they lost the opening doubles, State’s top ranked Kaushal Dharmamer thrashed Sushant Ravva 21-16, 21-12, followed by their another state’s one of the top pairs Akshan Shetty and Sushant Karmarkar gong all out after dropping the first game to beat Amey Pawar and Muthu Surya 11-21, 21-8,21-16 to take their place in the final.
