Ave Maria showed good understanding and teamwork as they romped to an impressive 12-2 win against Kalina Village Boys in a Men’s Open quarter-final match of the Mount Carmel Invitation Floodlit Rink Hockey Tournament – 2018, organised by the Carmel Sports Committee and played under floodlights at the Mount Carmel Church compound.
Combining well as a unit, Ave Maria scored at regular intervals with Vinay Walmiki and Vikram Singh both scoring three goals each, Solomon Alexander and Girish Pimpale netting a brace of goals each and Snedden Mendes and Nitin Kumar chipping in with one each to round of the goals tally. The Kalina side scored through Kingsley Rebello and Pranav D.
Meanwhile, Jonathan D’Souza was back in top scoring form and slotted home four goals in leading Rebels SC to a 6-4 win against Bombay Republicans in another Men’s quarter-final encounter. Enrico Fernandes and Mukul Khilnani netted one each to complete Rebels winning tally. For republicans Venkatesh Devekar scored three goals while Sanket Dhotre got one.
In a veteran men’s quarter-final encounter, Kalina Village Boys got the better of Freunds SC by a narrow 3-2 margin. Sylvester P. scored twice and Troy M. struck one in the Village Boy win while Kayzin D’Souza scored both the goals for the losing side.
