Late Satish Sabnis Chess Tournament from Sunday


The Shivaji Park Gymkhana and Satish Sabnis Foundation will jointly organise the 5th ‘Satish Sabnis Open Rapid Chess Championship’ under the aegis of the Mumbai City District Chess Association and which is scheduled to commence from Sunday, March 11, 2018.

 

This chess tournament is being conducted in memory of Late Satish Sabnis, who had organised the first-ever International Chess Championship in the city in 1984. Sabnis was a national level chess player and was president of the Maharashtra Chess Association and Vice-President of the All India Chess Federation. He was also manager for the Dubai – Chess Olympiad, which incidentally, was Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand’s first international chess tournament.

 

The tournament offers a total prize-money of Rs 1.59 lakhs.

 

Registrations are open till Friday, March 9, 2018, at the SPG office (between 10.00 am to 6.00 pm). The entry fee for the tournament is Rs 500.
