An overwhelming response of 214 entries have been received for the Matunga Gymkhana 6-Red Open Snooker Tournament 2018, sponsored and hosted by Matunga Gymkhana and which is set to cue off at the gymkhana’s billiards hall from Tuesday, March 6, 2018. The final of this tournament, which is being conducted under the auspices of BSAM, is slated to be played on March 25.
Leading the field of challengers is current Indian No. 2 Kamal Chawla of Indian Railway, who has been given the pride of place. Indian No. 5 Sundeep Gulati of Delhi is the second seed. The other main contenders include, Laxman Rawat a former Asian Championship bronze medallist, Siddharth Parikh, former two-time Asian champion, Yasin Merchant, and talented Rahul Sachdev, to name a few.
The tournament offers a total cash prize of Rs. two lakhs. The ultimate champion will earn a purse of Rs 50,000 and a Trophy, while the runner-up will receive a cash award of Rs 30,000 plus a Trophy. The losing semi-finalists will pocket a prize of Rs 17,500 each, the losing quarter-finalists will get Rs 10,000 each and the losing pre-quarter-finalists will get Rs 5,000 each. In addition there will a special prize of Rs 5,000 for the highest break.
The format is a straight knockout tournament. Matches up to the round of 64 will be played over best-of-7 frames. From the round of 32 till the quarter-final it will be played over best-of-9 frames. The semi-finals will be contested over best-of-11 frames and the grand finale will be a best-of-13 frame affair.
The tournament will be played in accordance with the prevailing rules and regulations of the Billiards & Snooker Federation of India (BSFI).
