Spinner Chavan and opener Pujari steer MumbaiPolice to 5-wkt win


The fine performances from left-arm spinner Yash Chavan and opening batsman Hanumant Pujari were instrumental in guiding Greater Mumbai Police Sports Club ‘B’ to a fluent five-wicket victory against Shinrai Toyota Sports Club in a Times Shield ‘C’ Division first round league match played at the Police Gymkhana ground on Thursday.

Electing to field first, Mumbai Police were well-served by Chavan who bowled well and picked up wickets at regular intervals to restrict Shinrai Toyota to 280 all out in 66.3 overs. Chavan returned with impressive figures of 7 for 53 runs.

 

For Shinrai Toyota their innings was boosted by Dinesh Pawar who scored a century knock of 114 runs from 158 balls with 10 boundaries and 5 sixes.

 

 

 

In reply, Mumbai Police comfortably chased down the total thanks to a solid effort from opening bat Pujari who smashed a match-winning century knock of 147 runs from 134-balls and which was studded with 18 well-timed hits to the ropes and five huge sixes. Chavan also made a substantial contribution with the bat scoring an unbeaten 77 runs and the Policemen reached 284 for the loss of 5 wickets in 64.2 overs.
