A specially designed course, which would provide proper guidelines for goalkeepers, is set to be launched in Mumbai, starting from second week of January, 2018. Aspiring goalkeepers and young goalkeeper will get an opportunity to learn the basic trades of tending the bar, right from the grassroots levels to intermediate and also advance training. Shekhar Bangera, a former Orkay Mills, Maharashtra and AIFF XI goalkeeper, is the brainchild behind this Academy.
The Academy will be a one of a kind in Mumbai, in fact to the whole of India. The curriculum of this unique Academy is specifically programmed to promote, develop and uplift the standard of football Goalkeeping. Young goalkeepers will be trained under former International (India), Maharashtra State, National and seasoned goalkeepers who played for top clubs of India for several years.
The Academy will be managed by Jai Bharat FC – A KSA registered and affiliated club in Mumbai.
Bangera in a media release said, “Our Vision is to impart the art of football goalkeeping to take you to the next level (top-level). All the trainees will be under the guidance of renowned former goalkeepers.”
Under the guidance of experienced International player turned coaches both young and experienced goalkeepers have the option of learning and honing their skills. Players under the age groups of 10, 12 or 14 will be given Basic Grassroots training while for players of 15 or above will have two options, Intermediate training or advanced training.
The players will be trained for a year-long duration during the course with sessions twice a week, schedule on weekends. Intially there will be two centres in Mumbai. In South Mumbai the camp will be conducted at the KSA ground, Churchgate and at the Lions ground, Santacruz.
