W.Rly, MGMO emerge champions

Defending champion Western Railway scored an emphatic 13-4 win over hosts PM Hindu Bath to retain their hold on the men’s trophy in the GMAAA water polo League, hosted by PM Bath at their pool at Chowpatty here last night.  The corresponding women’s final too was rather one-sided as the hosts Hindu Bath women were outclassed by MGMO (Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Olympic Pool),  with the latter winning the trophy 11-2.

However, both scored contrasting wins. Western Railway men had to bring out their best to quell the hosts spirited challenge. The fast-paced final saw both making repeated inroads inside their rival’s territory, but  Western’s goalkeeper Mandar Bhoir was at his best, as he time and again baulked the efforts of their opponents to  find their target, while on the other hand, Western forwards with  both the Kundes – Akshay (5) and Ashwini (3)- and Arjun Kawle (2) shot goals almost at will.
