Khar Gymkhana’s Neel Roy set the pool on fire with two record-breaking golds in the men’s 200m free style and 400m individual medley events in the GMAAA Annual Senior and Lower Age Group Aquatic Meet cum Selection Trial meet, held at Tata Power Swimming Pool at Chembur here today.
Still a junior, Neel, while clocking 01:57.20 secs in the 200m free style, thus eclipsed the record of 02:04.56 secs set by his clubmate Aryan Makhija in 2014. In the process, he left Sushrut Kapse (Glenmark Aquatic Foundation) and Rudransh Mishra, also of GAF way behind. And in the 400m individual medley, Neel was again in top gear as broke another record of Vedant Khandeparkar (Otters)’s 04:59.13 secs, set in 2014, with a timing of 04:49.47 secs.
Following double record-breaking feat of Neel, Aaryan Bhosale of Forest Club, bettered his last year’s 200m back stroke timing of 02:22.48 secs. by clocking 02:15.82 secs. Aaryan, who had finished second behind Neel in the 400m individual medley, triumphed in the back stroke event in style.
In the women’s section, Police Swimming Pool’s Aarti Patil bagged two golds in the 50m (00:37.27 secs) and 100m Breast Stroke (01:19.88 secs) events.
