Diya Chitale of Mumbai(Maharashtra) crowned herself in glory by winning the sub-junior girls’ singles title in the 11Even Sports National Ranking (Central Zone) Table Tennis Championships, which concluded at Abhay Prashad Indoor Stadium, here, on Saturday.
The highly-talented Diya showed loads of confidence in the title clash with Munmun Kundu of West Bengal and without too much of a fuss walked away with the top honours recording a fluent 4-1 victory in the best-of-7-game final.
Diya played with complete authority and hit the right notes as she came back after dropping the first game to win the next four on the trot and close the match to complete a deserving 6-11, 11-8, 11-2, 11-4, 11-9 triumph.
Earlier in the semi-final, Diya blanled Assam’s Trisha Gogoi 4-0 (11-4, 11-8, 11-4, 11-9), while Munmun overcame Maharashtra’s Mihika Rohira 4-2 (12-14, 11-6, 9-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-6).
Meanwhile, Payas Jain of Delhi bagged Sub-Junior Boys title when he defeated Jeho H. of PSPBA 4-1in the final. Payas, who won his second national ranking title here after his Rajkot outing last year in the West Zone event, played truly well despite the defensive Jeho put him in all sorts of trouble. The most energy-sapping game came in the third which Payas on 23-21 and from there it was Payas all the way as he won 4-1.
