Fancied Mahatma Gandhi Sports Academy from Bandra, opened their campaign in style with a facile 55-8 wn over Borivali’s Om Sai Mandal to enter the women’s quarterfinals of the Poinsur Gymkhana’s open floodlit kabaddi tournament, held under the auspices of Mumbai Suburban District Kabaddi Association, at Yuvak Kreeda Mandal, Kandivali (West), Wednesday night. The opening day witnessed mostly one-sided wins, especially in women’s section.
Among others to join in the last eight were Ghatkopar’s Satyam, a 30-8 winners over Nav Maharashtra from Borivali) and favourites Navshakti Mandal from Chembur, who routed Goraknath Mandal (Kurla) 45-6.
Results: Junior Boys: (Pre-quarterfinals): Spurti (Jogeshwari) bt Gavdevi Mandal (Borivali) 21-13; Prashant Mandal (Borivali) bt Swayambu (Malad) 19-17; Sahasi (Chembur) bt Shiv Shakti (Jogeshwari) 24-12; Suraksha Mandal (Malad) bt Railway Police Boys (Ghatkopar) 21-18.
