PYC Pune stop the winning run of Santacruz Gymkhana


Santacruz Gymkhana, Mumbai with their strong combination of Kiran Salian and Rajesh Singh raced through the team event to reach the finals of Maharashtra State veterans Championship hosted by JVPG Club Juhu. On Saturday late evening they defeated the tough looking side of Solapur 3-2 in a well contested semi final match to find place in finals.

However, in the team finals played today afternoon, this Mumbai team failed to produce win, as they lost to PYC Gymkhana led by in form Upendra Mulye , Pune 0-3 . Pune men had  another occasion to celebrate Upendra and Rohit Choudhary also from Pune played the finals of the 39+ Men’s singles final later in the evening. This final was won by  Rohit Choudhary. In the 49+ Men’s final, former international Sunil Babras beat his Century Warriors team mate Vivek Alavani, while evergreen Prakash kelkar scored a fluent win over Jayant Kulkarni in the finals of 59+ men’s singles .

PJ Hindu Gymkhana’s Suhas Kulkarni proved his supremacy, when he beat top seed Deepak Dudhane to win the 69+ men’s singles finals. Khandadia brothers Zarksis and Zarir won the finals of 69+ and 75+ men’s singles, to have another celebration at home.

In the women’s section, Mumbai’s Moonmoon Ghosh won the first title of the season beating Shahin Khan from Nagpur in the 39+ individual singles, while Pune’s Suhasini Bakre won the Women’s 49+ singles defeating Neeta Kulkarni from Mumbai. In the 59+ women’s singles Mangal Saraf proved that there was none to match her standard in her group. She has won all the titles this year of state ranking tournaments, wherever she had participated .
