State Veterans’ TT Championship begins at JVPG from Friday


Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana Club will be hosting  the prestigious Maharashtra State Veterans Championship under the auspices of MSDTTA  and MSTTA and with the  guidance of MVTTC  on 6th and 7th January’2017 in their Badminton Hall, for the first time.  Mr. Ojas Dave of JVPG is the Chairperson of this event while three times National Veterans Champion Yogesh Desai and Jigar Rambhia of JVPG Club are the Organising Secretaries of this important event .

Speaking about this tournament, Mr. Yogesh Desai informed Magzmumbai  that this two days tournament has generated very good response amongst  all the state veterans players and despite it being conducted on working days, JVPG Club has already received 200 plus individual Singles entries and 50 Team Championship entries. “Every year we find more and more players joining this veterans group and their performance is really very good,” said Yogesh, who is himself among the top ranked players in Veterans’ 64+ group.

All the top Veteran players of the state from places like Mumbai, Pune, Solapur, Nashik ,Nagpur and Sangli are participating in this important tournament with an eye to get a birth in the State Team to participate in the up coming National Veterans T T Championship commencing at Balewadi Pune on 17th January 2017. Upendra Muley, Sunil Babras, Manish Ravat, Dr.Toshniwal, Kiran Salian, K.K. Rai, P.G.Kelkar, Suhas Kulkarni, Moonmoon Ghosh and Suhasini Bakre are some of the many star players who will be vying for the top honours. Well known film personality and a die hard T T fan and player Sourabh Shukla will also be a star participant of this State Championship.

This Maharashtra State Veterans Championship will have players playing from the age groups of 39+ to 70+ in five different categories in Men’s Singles and in Women there will be played in three different categories from 39+ to 60+ categories. JVPG Club the host of the tournament will be awarding Trophies in all the events in addition to prize money. The  tournament gets underway on Friday 6th January 2017 with the inauguration at 9 am followed by Team Championship event. Finals are scheduled on Saturday 7th January . from 4 p m. onwards.
