Central and Western Railway take different routes to final


Local challengers Central Railway and Western Railway took different routes to the final of the Deserve Builder & Devolopers-RCF Premier Cup Football Tournament, organized by RCF Colony Boys Krida and Sanskrutik Mandal, and played at the RCF Colony ground, Chembur.

In semi-final encounters, Central eked out a solitary goal, 1-0 win against Mumbai Customs, while Western proved too good for outstation club Nagpur FC as they romped to an authoritative 4-0 victory.

The match between Central and Customs witnessed a grim battle for supremacy. But, midway through the first session, Central Railway against the run of play managed to score the crucial goal, and after which they did well to defend till the end of the match to secure their win and a place in the title round.

Meanwhile, the other semi-final match played between Western and Nagpur FC saw an even contest initially. However, after the change of ends, Western picked up steam and scored four times during this period to run away with the match. The visitors seemed out of sorts and came under tremendous pressure from the Western Railway attackers. The railwaymen got their first goal through an own goals scored by Vergnesh. Later Reuben D’Souza (44th min), Somi P.T. (64th) and Ravikant Naidu (68th) scored one apiece to complete the big margin of victory.

Results – Men’s (semi-final): Central Railway 1 (Ajinkya Nalavade 26) beat Mumbai Customs 0.

Western Railway 4 (OG-Vergnesh, Reuben D’Souza, Somi P.T., Ravikant Naidu) beat Nagpur FC 0.
