Dnyan Vidya Niketan win Under-14 boys’ kabaddi event


Dnyan Pushpa Vidya Niketan & Junior College reigned supreme after an action packed day to win the Under-14 boys’ kabaddi championship at the Sports For All 2016, played at DY Patil Stadium, Nerul today.

The battle between two of the heavyweights of the tournament, Vidya Niketan and N.M Joshi Marg Municipal Secondary School (Currey Road), yielded a thrilling contest with both teams involved in a close encounter. However, it was Vidya Niketan who held on to their nerves and won 59-46 to run away with the gold medal. In the third place match, R.F Naik Vidyalaya and Junior College produced a dominating performance to win the game 55-20 against Saraswati Secondary School.

In the Under-14 handball event, Lady Ratanbai & Sir Mathuradas Vissanji Academy beat Ryan International School, Nerul 7-6 in a close encounter to win the gold medal, while the bronze medal went to Gopi Birla Memorial School who beat Bunts Sanghas S.M.Shetty International School 10-4.

 

In the girls’ Under-18 kho-kho competition, Rajshree Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Vidyalaya beat Kendriya Vidyalaya (IIT Powai) 9-6 to win the gold medal. The bronze medal went Samata Vidya Mandir.

In combat sports, Sach Jhankaria of Bombay International School took the gold in boys’ Under -17 karate KATA event, while Sachin Nirmal of Marwari Vidyalaya High School won the silver. Hilaal Khan of Sumaiya English High School took the bronze. In the girls’ Under-17 karate KATA event, Vishika Kapoor of RBK School, Mira Road won the gold. Shrusthi Totiger of Gurukul Education Society won the silver medal, while PVG Vidyabhawan Secondary English School duo of Prachiti Chalke and Sakshi Desai won the bronze medal.

 

Jay Khandelwal of Rustomjee Cambridge International School, Dahisar beat Mahed Sayyed of Shri Vani Vidyashala High School, Kalyan 5-3 to qualify for the semifinal of the Under-17 boys’ EPEE semifinals, while Rakesh Naidu of South Indian Welfare Society High Society High School, Wadala beat Krish Chhajed of The Blossoms Sunderbai Thackersey English School 5-4 to book his berth in round of four.

In the boys’ Under-14 football event, Holy Cross Convent (Mira Road) beat Ryan International School, Khar 9-0 to ease into the semifinal. Reliance Foundation School, Koparkhairane also maintained their dominant form in the tournament and beat St. Augustine High School 4-1 to make it to the semis. Utpal Shanghvi Global School beat Don Bosco Senior Secondary School, Nerul 6-1 to qualify for the semis, while Cambridge School, Kandivalli got the better of Jamnabai Narsee School 2-1 to book a berth in the last four.

 

The boys’ Under-15 table tennis singles event saw Aditya Nair of St. Mary’s ICSE School, Koparkhairane beat Kushagra Laddha of JBCN International School 6-11, 11-7, 11-4 & 11-2. Yash Kashyap of Ryan International School, Kandivali beat Aman Sayed of D P Patil International School, Nerul 11-9,13-11, 11-9 & 11-6.

 

With Sports For All entering into its 19th day, Vibgyor High School (Goregaon) is leading in the school rankings tables with 16 gold, 11 silver and 17 bronze medals, while Children’s Academy Malad is second with 14 gold, 10 silver and 10 bronze. Jamnabai Narsee School is in the third place with 12 gold medals, 10 silver and 9 bronze medals.
