Sports For All 2016 rolled into its ninth day with squash players and shooters calling the shots once again here at the DY Patil Stadium, Nerul on Tuesday day.
Young Ameya Nibre of Waman Rao Muranjan High School & Jr School stole the limelight by winning the Air Rifle Open Sight Under-19 boys’ category by accumulating a total of 327 points in the fourth round (87, 84,81, 75).
In the Air Rifle Peep Under-19 boys’ category, Hemant Zade of Peoples Education Society English Medium School shot rounds of 95, 98, 92, 92 to finish with a total score of 379 to win the gold medal, while in the Under-19 girls’ category, Trisha Mukherjee of Fr. Agnel Multipurpose School and Junior College with rounds of 92, 97, 97, 97 totaled 383 to win the top prize.
Air Rifle Peep Under-17 boys’ category saw Quirenius Mendosa of Fr. Agnel Multipurpose School and Junior College end with a score of 387 (96, 98, 98, 95) to win the gold medal while in the girls’ category Antara Gavand of Smt. Sulochana Singhania School won with a score of 373 (93, 94, 95, 91). The Air Rifle Open Sight Under 17 boys’ and girls’ saw Jeeshant Sawant end with a total of 307 (73, 71, 72, 81) of Bombay Cambridge School and Akansha Hande of South Indian Welfare Society High School (Wadala) with a total of 307 (79, 74, 73, 81) win in their categories respectively.
In squash, second seeded Shlok Sahay of DPS Nerul beat third seed Avinash Yadav of Jindal Vidya Mandir 7-11, 11-3, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9 to annexe the title, while the girls’ title went to top seeded Bhavna Goyal of RSB Arya Vidya Mandir who beat second seeded Rani Gupta 11-5, 11-8, 11-3.
The Under -15 boys’ category went to second seeded Mohit Bhatt of Jindal Vidya Mandir after he thrashed top seeded Jay Vaknalli of Podar International School 16-14, 14-12, 7-11 & 11-6. In the Under-15 girls’ category, Number one seeded Aishwarya Khubchandani of Podar International School beat third seeded Sunita Patel of Jindal Vidya Mandir 11-5, 11-2 &11-4 to win the title. Second seeded Aimaan Zakaria of Aditya Birla World School beat Priyaan Thakker of The Universal School (Tardeo) 11-7, 11- & 11-2 to take the title, while in the girls’ category Shreya Narang of Cathedral and Connon School created an upset by pulling off a stunning 11-5,11-3, 11-3 victory over the top seeded Annika Jain of P.G Garodia School.
The day also saw the first day of badminton championship with young shuttlers battling it out in girls’ Under 15 and boys’ Under- 11 categories.
In the girls’ under 15 category, Dimple Gaonkar of St. Xaviers High School beat Pari Karani of Universal School 15-11, 15-3 to advance into the next round. Sakshi Tripathi of North Point School also moved into the next round by beating Hridya Madhu of Sadhu Vaswani International School 15-3, 15-5.
In the boys’ under 11 category, Uttam Kambale of Rajshree Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Vidyalaya held on to his nerves to beat Rishabh Pandey of Ryan International School 13-15,15-8,15-14 to move to the next round
