Aishwarya sets up Squash title clash with Sunita


As Sports For All 2016 entered its eighth day, the action picked up with schools kids displaying their prowess even in new-age sports and competing like champions. Squash and shooting took the centre-stage on Monday at the DY Patil Stadium, with top seed in the girls’ Under-15 category Aishwarya Khubchandani of Podar International School playing flawlessly to enter the squash final.

She won 11-1, 11-1, 11-6 to show that she is ready for the big league as also for Sunita Patel of Jindal Vidya Mandir who sneaked into the summit clash on a hard-fought 5-11, 12-10, 11-7,8-11 & 11-3 victory over her schoolmate and second seeded Anjali Semwal.

 

In the boys’ Under-11s, second seeded Aimaan Zakaria of Aditya Birla World Academy will take on Priyansh Thakker of Universal School, Tardeo in the finals. Aimaan beat Arjun of Jamnabai Narsee School 11-3, 11-2, 11-1 while Priyaan staved off a strong challenge from Vansh Wadhawan of St. Gregorious High School to set up the clash. In the Under-13s, the fight for the title will be between third seeded Sunny Yadav of Jindal Vidya Mandir and his schoolmate and fourth seeded Om Semwal. Sunny got the better of Gautam Asudani of Dhirubhai Ambani International School 11-5,12-10, 13-11 while Semwal made into the finals by beating Ahuji Prakash of Jindal Vidya Mandir 6-11,7-11, 11-9, 11-7,11-5.

In the other exciting events of the day, Aijal Sartaj Singh of New Horizon Public School, Airoli shot rounds of 87, 90, 94, 84 in the Boys’ Under 14 Air Pistol to end with a tally of 355, the best score of the day. In the Air Rifle open for Under-14 boys, Vudhivant Rahu, Balmohan Vidya Mandir (Marathi) led the day with his score of 254 (68, 58, 59, 69). In the Air Rifle peep sight Under 14 Boys’ category, Shubham Lulu of Ryan International School ended with an impressive total of 388, thanks to his rounds of 98, 96, 96, 98.

 

It was the inaugural day for basketball also in SFA 2016 with Under-11 girls fighting it out to assert their early dominance in the championship. Lady Ratanbai & Sir Mathuradas Vissanii Academy thrashed RBK International School, Chembur 46-1, while Vibgyor High School (Airoli) beat Aditya Birla World Academy 20-0. Gundechan Education Academy also started their campaign on a winning note, beating Mary Immaculate Girls High School 26-2.

 

In the football Under 14 girls’ category, Udayachal High School beat Ryan International High School, Kharghar 2-0 while Avalon Heights International School beat St. Lawrence High School (Borivali) 2-0. Cambridge School, Kandivali got past St. Joseph High School (Panvel) 1-0.
