St. Lawrence (Kandivali) dominated for most part of the tie, before they defeated St Xaviers by a solitary goal in the boys under-16 final of the Poinsur Gymkhana’s Inter-school football tournament, held under their Uttar Krida Mahotsav annual sports fiesta, played at their ground at Kandivali here today.
The winners St Lawrence (Kandivali) receiving the trophy from the chief guest Mr Ajit Matkat, former Indian Railways footballer and coach and Mr Karunakar Shetty, vice president of the Poinsur Gymkhana.
After the goalless first half, the all-important goal came soon within two minutes into the second half when Rahul Rawat hoodwinked the onrushing goalkeeper to sent the ball home. After their surprise win over fancied St Francis D’Asssisi in the semifinals, St Lawrence were made to struggle hard before they got winner.
