Krish Solanki sets high jump record at SFA 2016


The second day of Sports For All, Mumbai’s mini-Olympics for schoolkids, came to life with as many as 1,000 students from over 180 schools competing in 35 different track and field events here on Tuesday.

At the end of the eventful day at SAI’s Kandivalli complex, a 13-year-old boy from Children’s Academy, Malad raced away with all the honours, setting a new school record.

Krish Solanki, the Mumbai suburban district champion, scaled 1.60 metres to set a new record and take the gold medal in the high jump event.

His schoolmate Yash Poria grabbed the silver by jumping 1.50 metres while the bronze went to Krish Joshi (1.45 metres) of Children Academy, Thakur Complex.

Among the other exciting events, which saw many talented young kids compete like champions, Prajval Shetty, nicknamed the Malad Prodigy, of Children’s Academy flung the javelin over a distance of 35.74 metres to take the coveted gold. The 15-year-old, who represented Maharashtra in the Under-16 Nationals in Hyderabad last month, had annexed the hammer throw bronze as well on the first day of the SFA.

Rishikesh Jadav of DAV Public School, Nerul finished second with a throw of 31.80 metres while Binit Chaudhary (30.5 metres) of St. Lawrence took the third position.

 

In the boys’ Under-16 100 metres sprint, Aryan Landge of Avalon Height International School set the track on fire, clocking an impressive 11.68 seconds to win the gold medal.

He was trailed by Akshat Lath of Children’s Academy, Thakur Complex who took 11.94 seconds to cross the finish line. Aum Deshpandhe of RIMS International School took had to be content with the bronze with a timing of 12.04 seconds.

 

In the long jump, the positions were swapped with Akshath taking the honours by jumping an impressive distance of 6.18 metres while Landge could only take the silver by leaping 5.72 metres. Interestingly, Aditya Sawant too crossed 5.72 metres but had to make do with the bronze in countback.

 

The athletics events in SFA 2016 culminate on Wednesday at SAI Kandivalli with as many as 2,000 kids from 250 lines gearing up to compete in 36, mostly track events.
