Kevin D’Almeida’s smashed a blistering unbeaten 142 runs to power MIG Cricket Club to a five-wicket win over Dr. D.Y. Patil SA on day-two of their Group-A second round league match of the Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd. sponsored 69th Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament – 2016, and played at the MIG CC ground, Bandra, on Sunday.

Attacking batsman D’Almeida’s unblemished and match-winning century essay came off 131 balls and contained 13 sweetly timed hits to the boundary and two huge sixes as MIG comfortably chased down the winning target, scoring 319 for the loss of five wickets in 67.1 overs. Earlier, D.Y. Patil scored 318 for 8 wickets in 70 overs.

D’Almeida was ably supported by Sandip Kunchikor was contributed 74 runs towards the winning cause.

Meanwhile, hosts Mumbai Police suffered a 180-run defeat to Bombay Gymkhana in a Group-C league clash at the Police Gymkhana Ground. Bombay Gymkhana resuming at their overnight score of 282 for 6 wickets from 60 overs, added a quick 85 runs from the remaining 10 overs to finish their innings at a healthy 367 for 8 wickets in 70 overs.

Faced with a daunting task of scoring 368 for a win, the Mumbai Police failed to gain momentum as their batsmen were unable to get going and they lost wickets at regular intervals before being bowled out for a paltry 187 in 52.4 overs. Divyansh Saxena (47) and Swapnil Pradhan (42) were the only Police batsmen who got some runs. Bombay Gymkhana’s slow left-arm bolwer Yogesh Sawant did the damage and finished with superb figures of 6 for 38.

Parsee Gymkhana: 232 all out in 58.4 overs ( Arjun Shetty 92, Ajinkya Patil 50, Ankit Revandkar 34; Samad Akhtar 3/26, Danish Rainee 3/42) beat Islam Gymkhana: 180 all out in 56.1 overs ( Abdul Aziz 58, Kamran Chaudhary 47*; Sagar Udeshi 5/44). Result: Parsee Gymkhana won by 52 runs.

Group – B: Cricket Club of India: 198 all out in 44.1 overs (Vinit Indulkar 55, Aniket Redkar 37; Amit Gavande 4/54, Shashank Attarde 3/34) lost to Sponsor XI (Jain Irrigation): 209 /4 in 40.5 overs (Azhar Ansari 47*, Mansingh Nigde 46*, Sumeet Meher 33). Result: Sponsor XI (Jain Irrigation) won by 6 wickets.

Payyade Sport Club: 251 all out in 67.2 overs (Prasad Pawar 70, Praful Waghela 44, Deepak Gaikwad 37; Vidhyadhar Kamat 5/60, Shivam Dubey 4/45) lost to Karnatak Sporting Association: 252 /7 in 51.2 overs (Anup Revandkar 54,Shubham Dubey 44, Vinayak Bhoir 39; Pradeep Sahu 5/81). Result: Karnatak SA won by 3 wickets.

Group – C: Bombay Gymkhana: 367/8 in 70 overs (Krunal Nar 109(Min. 122, Balls-107, 14 x 4,3 x 6), Rahul Lad 72, Swapnil Salvi 57, Neil Narvekar 56; Hersh Tank 3/59) beat Mumbai Police: 187 all out in 52.4 overs (Divyansh Saxena 47, Swapnil Pradhan 42, Hersh Tank 39; Yogesh Sawant 6/38). Result: Bombay Gymkhana won by 180 runs.

MCA Colts: 283 all out in 69 overs (Aakash Anand 90 , Bhupen Lalwani 59, Aishwarya Surve 39, Shams Mulani 37; Nitin Surve 5/99, Pawan Kumar 4/75) beat P.J. Hindu Gymkhana: 159 all out in 42.3 overs (Parth Shah 59; Shams Mulani  5/30, Samarth Kokate 3/61). Result: MCA Colts won by 124 runs.
