Sellebrity FC started off on a bright winning note as they overcame Fr. Agnel SC 3-2 in a keenly fought and absorbing Super Division match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League 2016-2017, and played at the Mumbai Football Arena, Shahaji Raje Bhosale Kreeda Sankul-BKLP (Andheri Sports Complex) on Sunday evening. Strikes Zeeshan Shaikh, Merwyn Fernandes and Amit Singh, with a strike at the death scored for Sellebrity, while Fr. Agnel got their goals through Saud Shaikh in the first half and Jousha Dias.
Incidentally, this was the first win in the Super League this season on this ground as the previous three matches ended in stalemates.
In a match contested between two evenly matched teams, Fr. Agnel snatched the initiative when Saud Shaikh found the net in the very eighth minute. Exhibiting solid determination, Sellebrity restored parity through Zeeshan in the third minute of additional period of the first half.
On resumption, Sellebrity grabbed the lead when Merwyn neatly trapped a long ball and coolly placed it to the far corner giving the rival goalkeeper no chance in the 57th minute. Fr. Agnel pressed hard for the equalizer and created a number of chances and even earned a penalty which was wasted by Joshua, whose try was brilliantly saved by Sellebrity goalkeeper Christian Nwosu who judged correctly and dived to his left to block the shot.
However, Joshua made amends for that miss as he slotted home Fr. Agnel’s second goal in the 84th minute. Just when the match seemed to be heading towards a draw, Amit capitalized on a weak clearance and punted the ball home from the top of the box in the fourth minute of additional time to help Sellibrity steal a win and all the three points.
