Central Secretariat found their scoring form in the second half and turned on the heat to score six times during this period to hand Abhi Foundation a 7-1 defeat in a Super Division match of the MHAL (Mumbai Hockey Association Limited) League – 2016, and played at the MHAL Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate, on Saturday evening.
The highlight of the match was Jayesh Jadhav who notched up a fine hat-trick. Jadhav, the spearhead of the in Secretariat attack came up with goals in the 44th, 46th and 63rd minutes. Skipper Guna Sekar (10th) Thimanna P.L. (37th), Nilesh K. (53rd) and B. Vinayak (69th) got the other four goals to complete the win. While Yograj Singh converted a penalty corner in the final minute of the first half as Abhi Foundation went into the break on level terms at 1-1. Jadhav for his fine efforts was later named ‘Man-of-the-match’ and received a cash prize of Rs 1,000.
Lack of experience proved to main drawback for Abhi Foundation. They put up a spirited display in the first period and had they converted the half chances the outcome could have been much different. However, after changing sides, the Abhi Foundation unit completely fell apart and seemed clueless as they conceded six goals to suffer their third straight loss. Secretariat grabbed all the three points from their first match.
