MUMBAI: Deep Rambhiya produced an outstanding display while helping K.J.Somaiya to an exciting 2-1 win over Thakur College in the boys under-19 final of the Mumbai Suburban (All Taluka) under-19 badminton Tournament, organized by Vision Sports Reconnect and Fairplay Sport Management at Goregon Sports Club here today.
Having rather weak teammates, Deep was pillar around his college’s success. He not only won his singles, but was instrumental in the all-important doubles as well. Even in the semifinals, too, Somaiya were lucky to clinch the doubles over extra points against Bandra’s St, Andrew College.
The girls under-19 final was won by Thakur College 2-1. Pooja Devlekar proved their pivot, winning her singles with ease. After Cherish D’souza lost meekily to Kalpita Sawant in the second singles, Pooja joined hands with Cherish to clinch the deciding double tie.
