Central Bank of India will take on Millat FC in the opening match, of the MDFA annual Independence Cup football tournament at St. Xavier’s ground, Parel on Sunday morning at 8.00 am. Former champions Mumbai Customs clash with Central Railway Mumbai Division in the second match.
A total of 14 teams (7 Elite and 7 Super Division) will be participating in this 2-day event, which will be played on a knockout format.
Last year’s winners Indian Navy and runners-up Western Railway have been given a bye to the quarter-finals and both will open their campaign on Monday.
The Elite clubs participating in the event, include last year’s winners Indian Navy, runners-up Western Railway, former champions Air India and Mumbai Customs, Union Bank of India, Central Bank of India and Kenkre FC. The Super Division clubs who will be seen in action are West Zone United, Century Rayon, HDFC, Dena Bank, Central Railway MD, Millat FC and Young Boys.
