Diya Chitale of Mumbai Suburban District, overcame the top seed Shruti Amrute of Thane in an exciting junior girls’ final, to clinch a double in the 1st Maharashtra State-ranking table tennis tournament which concluded at the Symbiosis Sports Center recently.

Over 1300 participants from all over Maharashtra had participated in the inaugural edition
Diya, who had earlier been crowned champion in the sub-junior girls’ event, defeated top seed Amrute to emerge as the only player to win two titles in the tournament. Diya, who trains under her coach Mr Sachin Shetty, won 11-13, 11-7, 14-16, 11-8, 11-6, 10-12, 11-6. She beat the second seed Srushti Halengadi on her road to the finals
Meanwhile, top seed Sanil Shetty ended Siddhesh Pande’s great run for a double crown in the men’s final. The India No. 7, however, lost a game against the emerging talent from Thane.
Siddhesh had earlier beaten Shubhankar Renavikar’s in the youth boys’ final.
