GuruTeghBahadur hockey from June 1


The Mumbai Hockey Association Limited (MHAL) will be conducting their annual PMC-Bank 12th Guru Tegh Bahadur All-India Gold Cup Hockey Championship – 2016 and to be played at the MHAL-Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate, from June 1 to 10, 2016.

Some of the leading outstation and Mumbai teams, including last year’s champions Air India are expected to participate in this 10-day tournament.

Mr. Mangha Singh Bakshi, President, MHAL, informed that about 10-12 teams would be seen in action. “The total number and names of teams that will be participating in the event would be available in the next couple of days, as some of the teams have yet to confirm their participation,” said Bakshi.

However, Bakshi mentioned that besides, Air India, CAG (Comptroller & Auditor General), runners-up of the 50th Bombay Gold Cup late last year and PNB (Punjab National Bank) have already accepted our invitation and will be playing in the tournament. In addition a couple of Mumbai-based teams, Western Railway, Central Railway, Mumbai Customs and Union Bank of India are also in the fray.

The President also stated that the association has plans to felicitate the Mumbai lads who recently won the title in the 6th Hockey India Junior National Championship (B Division) in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, early this month, during this tournament.
