TSG sets up AATC tennis academy at Shivaji Park Gymkhana


The Shivaji Park Gymkhana (SPG) is one of the many nurseries, which has over the years produced quite a number of top-level cricketers at the international stage and in the domestic circuit. And in the near future, the SPG is set to be the hub for young budding tennis talent from the city.

The Sports Gurukul (TSG), Mumbai’s premier sports development and promoters, has taken the initiative to form a tennis partnership with AATC (Australasian Academy of Tennis Coaches) in association with the Shivaji Park Gymkhana, Dadar.

Jay Shah, Co-founder & Director, TSG, informed media persons about this association during the launch of the mega TSG-AATC Tennis Academy at the SPG on Friday afternoon.

The initial program (summer camp) of the academy will commence from Monday, April 17. Thereafter there will be a year-long training camps and individual advanced programs.

TSG by setting up this academy plans to take tennis at the SPG to a new and higher level and to create a tennis centre of excellence for budding youngsters and provide them with an opportunity to get the best training which would help them to compete with the best at the state and national stage.

Speaking to the media, Shah said: “the need of the hour is to tap the existing potential and talent and then groom them to be successful athletes. This can be possible only with the help of a structured program which needs to be monitored by passionate, committed and experienced trainers and TSG is proud to have joined hands with AATC for this purpose.”

Lynton Joseph, CEO and Co-Founder of AATC said: “AATC is a professional coaches training organization that has the best coaches training program and that along with TSG intends to improvise the Indian coaches training standards. SPG as a centre has a wonderful potential given its location and with the talent pool around I am hoping that this association will help tennis in this region reach the next level.”

Paul Kleverlaan, another Co-Founder of AATC stated: “At AATC we are committed to take our tennis coaching program across the world and India is a very important country for us. Through our association with TSG we want to set up a top level tennis centre and training systems which can help build tennis in the country and at SPG.”

TSG has plans to set up such training academies in Uttar Pradesh and Hyderabad next.
