ONGC (Oil & Natural Gas Corporation) produced a steady, slick performance and scored twice in each half to put it across CPCL (Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited) by a fluent 4-1 margin in a semi-final encounter of the XXXIV PSPB Inter Unit Hockey Tournament 2016, hosted by ONGC and played at the MHAL-Mahindra Stadium on Saturday morning.
Striking a fine combination from the start, ONGC drew first blood in the very second minute through Pramod Kumar before Arun Rawat doubled the lead in the 15th minute. CPCL came back fighting after the change of ends and managed to reduce the deficit with R. Sekar finding the net in the 40th minute.
But, ONGC scored two more goals through P.A. Machia in the 49th minute and Tyron Pereira in the 63rd minute to complete their march to victory and a place in the final.
In the second semi-final, fancied IOC (Indian Oil Corporation) sidelined EIL (Engineers India Limited) by scoring a comfortable 5-2 victory. Didar Singh and Gurjinder Singh, both netted two goals apiece and Sunil Yadav one, while EIL got their goals through Amanpreet Chopra and Anil Bidla.
Results – semi-finals: ONGC 4 (Pramod Kumar, Arun Rawat, P.A. Machia, Tyron Pereira) beat CPCL 1 (R. Sekar).
Indian Oil Corporation 5 (Didar Singh 2, Gurjinder Singh 2, Sunil Yadav) beat EIL 2 (Amanpreet Chopra, Anil Bidla).
