Hockey Dadar encountered some anxious moments, but in the end managed to scrape through with a tense 5-3 verdict in their favour against a dogged Sea View SC in an exciting men’s semi-final match of the Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana 36th Invitation Rink Hockey Tournament – 2016, for the Late Victor D’Mello Memorial Trophy, and played at the Gymkhana’s floodlit tennis courts.
In a topsy-turvy encounter, Hockey Dadar forward Vikram Singh showed excellent striking form scoring four goals, while teammate Mosses P. added the fifth to finish the win. For Sea View the star performer was Royston Lobo who scored all the three goals.
In the first semi-final, Rizvi College despite putting up a strong challenge went down fighting fancied Mumbai Customs by a 6-4 margin. Jayesh Jadhav slammed four goals and Hemant Gethe got two for Customs, while Nikhil Pardeshi and Prince Chawrasia scored a brace each for the Rizvi College side.
Earlier in the women’s semi-final matches, Freunds SC ‘A’ blanked Orion Hockey 6-0 and Bombay Republicans overcame Valchandsons SC 7-2.

Bombay Republicans 7 (Jaspreet S 2, Anupa 2, Ashima, Pakpi, Poonam) beat Valchandsons SC 2 (Nathasha Braganza, Chaitrali Gawande).
Men’s (semi-finals): Hockey Dadar 5 (Vikram Singh 4, Mosses P.) beat Sea View SC 3 (Royston Lobo 3).
Mumbai Customs 6 (Jayesh Jadhav 4, Hemant Gethe 2) beat Rizvi College 4 (Nikhil Pardeshi 2, Prince Chawrasia 2).
