Dominant Maharashtra thump Railways


Hosts Maharashtra continued with their domineering run of form with a thumping 3-0 victory against Railways in a Group-A league match of the 70thNational Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy, conducted by WIFA under the auspices of AIFF and hosted and played at Nagpur, on Wednesday. This was the second successive win for Maharashtra who had earlier defeated Jammu & Kashmir 3-1 in the opening group match.

The Maharashtra outfit went on the offensive from the start and stand-in skipper Vijith Shetty fired home the first goal in the very 10th minute before Shahbaz Pathan found the back of the net in the 37th minute to double the lead.

Maharashtra continued to dictate terms and Aaron D’Costa joined the party scoring the third goal in the 71st minute to completely knock the fight out of the railwaymen.

In another match, holders Services scored a hard-fought win against Jammu & Kashmir with Jain netting the lone goal of the match.
