Naomi Fernandes was in the best striking form and notched up a fine hat-trick to steer I.C. United, Borivali to a comfortable 5-1 win against Mumbai United in a women’s first round match of the 23rd Annual Open Rink Football Tournament and played under floodlights at the Demonte Park Recreational Ground, Bandra. Mili Doshi and Aditi Shetty played good supporting roles by scoring a goal each to seal the Borivali side’s win, while Khushboo K. got the lone goal for the losers.
Meanwhile, a brace of goals by Farman Khan enabled Mean Machine, Andheri to register a close 2-1 victory over Blunders SC in a men’s open first round match. Akshay D. scored for the losers.
In another match, Jogga Bonitta outplayed Holy Family, Chakala 4-1 to advance to the second round. H. Rizvi scored three goals and Rohel S. got one for the winners, while Glen D. reduced the margin of defeat.
