A suave and soft spoken Gurcharan Singh Gill has won many accolades in table tennis circles , first as a state-level player and later as a table tennis coach. He has been doing yemon service to the game. Having involved in coaching school-going boys and girls at his own academy – Guru Table Tennis Centre at Malad – he has been credited to have produced a galore of young players, who have won laurels at the state and national level competitions.
Apart from producing at least 32 players, who won medals at the state and national level tournaments, Gurcharan was also instrumental in bringing team HIGH TIDE to silver medal triumph in the inaugural Mumbai Super League held in Mumbai last year.
Overall Gurucharan’s most noteworth achievements were being the coach of the Maharashtra State teams in 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2015 and won many medals, including bronze medal in the sub-junior girls at the Inter-State championships held at Kerala. And he has been coach of the Mumbai Suburban District teams for the last 10 Years. Under his stewardship, the Mumbai Suburban teams have been winning medals in various categories like men, women, boys and girls in various age groups.
Talking about his stint as a successful coach, Gurucharan said he has been grateful to national coach like Kamlesh Mehta, alongwith senior coaches like Deepak Mani and Sachin Shetty, who have pooled in their knowledge in supporting him in his endeavour to develop himself as a coach.
Gurcharan’s advice to the aspiring players and coaches is to be sincere and hard working and keep track of the all the latest and advance techniques that keeps coming up to push them to the next higher level.
