Nagpur’s Malvika Bansod and Satara’s ebullient Aarya Deshpande were the star performers as both set for double crown each in the PNB Metlife West Zone junior badminton championships held at Goregaon Sports Club here today.

Lefthander Malvika was all over the court, hitting some terrific down the line and cross smashes as she upset second seeded Anjana Kumari .in straight games (21-10, 21-12) to make the title round in the girls under-17 singles, where she faces top seeded Mumbai’s Kalpita Sawant, who made short work of Pune’s Aditi Mahajan 21-12, 21-10. Earlier, Malvika , who is top seeded in the under-15 section, outplayed her statemate Asani Joshi (NGP) 21-12, 21-9 to make the final.
And the girl who hopes to stop her is Satara’s Aarya Deshpande, who likewise , demolished Mumbai’s Janhavi Kanitkar 21-17, 21-10. Aarya, is also in the final of girls under-13 singles, where she takes on Mumbai;s Tasnim Mir.

Third seeded Bhavin Karamchandani was taken the distance by Harsh Jadhav before he prevailed 21-16, 15-21 , 21-9 in the boys under-15 semifinals, Ishan Bhatnagar , however, kept abreast of Tushar Kumar Setu as he triumphed 21-15, 21-19.
