Soham,Isha steal the show


Thane’s Soham Diwadkar and Isha Ramtake brought lot of cheers to their supporters by winning their respective 100m sprints in the boys under-20 and girls under-10 category in the India Masters Athletics’ Inaugural Five-District Open Track And Field Championships, held at the University Stadium here today.

Soham, who had won the 100m event in the YMCA meet at SAI, earlier this month repeated the feat winning the event in 10.8 secs, while Isha who had created a stir by setting new meet records in the 50m and 100m sprints at the YMCA meet, dominated in her group once again, as she took gold in the 200m in 21.3 secs.

Mary Rodrigues, now 81, is the oldest athlete in this Masters meet, which follows their Five-District meet. Mary has been an international athlete for nearly three decades, having participated in Hong Kong, Jakarta, Singapore and Finland meets and won medals in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m as well as long jump and 5000km walks at various stages in her long athletic career. The veteran events today were dominated by athletes from Mumbai and Thane.
