Nadkarni Cup Football – Air India score big win
Hosts Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilisers (RCF) crashed at the first hurdle going down fighting 1-3 to G.M. Sports in a first round match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) Nadkarni Cup (knock out) Football Tournament, organised and sponsored by RCF and played at the RCF ground, Chembur on Friday.
In an match contested between two evenly matched outfit, G.M. Sports took the lead through Arbaaz Khan in the 42nd minute. RCF fought on gamely and managed to restore parity through Kevin Patrick’s strike in the 60th minute. But G.M. Sports struck two more goals through Steve N’cho (63rd minute) and Abdoul Junior (87th minute) to complete the win.
Later in the evening, defending champions Air India started with a bang scoring a 7-1 win against Income Tax to set the tone for the defence of their title.
Results (1st round): G.M. Sports 3 (Arbaaz Khan 42nd, Steve N’cho 63rd, Abdoul Junior 87th) beat Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers 1 (Kevin Patrick 60th).
Air India 7 (Ashkar C.V. 8th, Aaron D’Costa 27th, 80th, Neil Gaikwad 45+2nd, Sagar Chile 59th, 66th, Vijith Shetty 71st) beat Income Tax 1 (Prathamesh Porwal 60th) .
