Shalene’s strike secures win for Companeroes


Companeroes Sports Club snatched a close 1-0 win against a spirited Magic Bus in a women’s quarter-final of the of the 13th Bandra West Football Association (BWFA) League 2015 and being played on the Dr. Norman Lewis, Supari Talao Muncipal Grounds, Bandra (West). In a hard-fought encounter Shalene D’Souza netted the crucial winning goal to seal Companeroes’ passage to the last four.

In another quarter-final match, M. United proved too strong for Parcham FC as they stormed to an emphatic 11-0 win. Combining well as a team, strikers Abeer Arsiwala, Namrata Thakur, Khushboo Rathod and Neha Ture scored two goals each while Shemchui Ningsheng, Lian Mathews and Bhagyashree Dalvi contributed one each to complete the tally of winning goals.

Meanwhile there was more joy for Companeroes SC, as their boys’ under-14 outfit cruised into the final. Companeroes put up a good performance to thump Fishermen FC 4-1 in a semi-final encounter. Josain Noronha netted a brace while Dale Verhoven and Vitaillin Naidu got one each to complete the scoreline for Companeroes while Anslem D’Mello got the lone goal for the losing side.
In the other semi-final, Bandra Packers riding on Sidharth Manchandani’s twin strikes blanked St. Theresa’s 2-0 to set up a title clash with Companeroes.
Results – Men veterans (semi-finals): Bandra Packers 2 ( Ashwin D’Souza, Maxie D’Souza) beat Jolly Boys SC ( Anslem D’Mello).
Boys’ under-14 (semi-finals): Companeroes SC 4 (Josian Naronha 2, Dale Verhoven, Vitaillin Naidu) beat Fishermen FC 1(Omkar Rane).
Bandra Packers 2 (Sidharth Manchandani 2) beat St. Theresa’s 0.
Women’s (quarter-finals): Companeroes SC 1 (Shalene D’Souza) beat Magic Bus 0.
