Sixteen leading teams will battle it out for top honours in the prestigious “70th Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament”, which will commence with the first round of matches from Saturday, October 28, 2017. The Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd. is the sponsors of this coveted tournament this year.
The 16 teams will be divided into four groups of four teams each and the initial rounds be played on a league basis at different venues. The league matches will be of 70 overs duration.
The topper of each group will advance to the semi-finals, which will be played over two days. The winners will clash in the finals, which will consist of two innings each team and over three days. The first inning will be of 90 overs and the second innings will be of 40 overs.
All the Matches are to be played as per the New Model Rules of the Mumbai Cricket Association.
Shri. D.D. Padsalgikar, Commissioner of Police, Mumbai who is also the Chairman of this tournament will inaugurate this tournament on Saturday at 12.15 p.m. at the Police Gymkhana, Marine Drive, Mumbai.
The following teams will participate in this tournament: Mumbai Police, MCA Colts, Jain Irrigation (Sponsors XI), Parsee Gymkhana, P.J. Hindu Gymkhana, Islam Gymkhana, Cricket Club of India, Bombay Gymkhana, Payyade Sports Club, Dr. D.Y. Patil Sports Association, Parkhophene Cricketers, Dadar Union Sporting Club, Sind Sporting Club, MIG Cricket Club, New Hind Sporting Club and Karnatak Sporting Association.
Tournament format:
1) The Tournament will be played on five week- ends.
2) There are 16 teams divided into four groups.
3) There will be 4 teams in each group & each team will be playing 3 league matches.
4) The league matches will be of 70 overs duration. The topper of each group will be playing 2 days
Semi-finals. Winners of semi finals will play against each other in the finals.
5) The finals will be of 3 days of 2 innings. The first inning will be of 90 over’s and the second innings
will be of 40 over’s.
6) All the Matches are to be played as per the New Model Rules of the Mumbai Cricket Association.
