An overwhelming number of 472 entries have been received for the Apna Sahakari Bank sponsored 1st State Ranking Morrac Tournament, organized by the MORRAC Association, Mumbai, and to be played at the N.M. Joshi High School premises, N.M. Joshi Marg on Saturday, May 26 and Sunday, May 27, 2018.
The Men’s singles event has attracted 320 entries, while 48 women players will be participating in the Women’s singles competition. Junior Boy’s (under-18) singles category will see 80 lads fighting for the top honours and 24 participants will compete in the Junior Girl’s (under-18) singles event.
The winners and runners-up will be presented with handsome trophies and prize-money in all four categories. The losing semi-finalists and quarter-finalists will also receive cash awards.
“Morrac is a different version of the regular carom game. Morrac is played on the normal brown Morrac board, similar to the carrom board and with the same type of coins. But, to make it interesting and to induce variety to the sport, the rules are changed and the scoring and playing format are completely different from the normal carom game,” said Mahendra Tambe, Hon. Gen. Secretary, Morrac Association and former India carom player.
“All carrom players are aware of this version and have already participated in many morrac tournaments conducted by various organisations and association. This is our maiden ranking tournament and I am confident that we will get a good number of participation, even from all the top-level carrom players from around Mumbai,” Tambe said confidently.
